![]() ![]() īeginning in the early 1980s, residential development spread in the Far West Village between West Street and Hudson Street, from West 14th Street to West Houston Street, resulting in the area being given its own name. The Stonewall Inn at 53 Christopher Street, a designated U.S. Residential property sale prices in West Village are among the most expensive in the United States, typically exceeding US$2,100 per square foot ($23,000/m 2) in 2017. The West Village is part of Manhattan Community District 2, and is patrolled by the 6th Precinct of the New York City Police Department. ![]() Neighboring communities include Chelsea to the north, the South Village and Hudson Square to the south, and the Washington Square neighborhood of Greenwich Village to the east. The Far West Village extends from the Hudson River to Hudson Street, between Gansevoort Street and Leroy Street. Other popular definitions have extended the southern boundary as far south as Houston Street, and some use Seventh Avenue or Avenue of the Americas as the eastern boundary. The traditional boundaries of the West Village are the Hudson River to the west, West 14th Street to the north, Greenwich Avenue to the east, and Christopher Street to the south. This work was completed in 1988, the architects for the conversion being Warner, Burns, Toan, Lunde.The West Village is a neighborhood in the western section of the larger Greenwich Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan, New York City. The building was converted for residential uses, and is now known as The Archive, after its former tenant. These agencies moved out in the 1970s and 1980s, and the building was sold to the Urban Development Corporation in 1982 and leased to Rockrose Partners. This housed offices of several government agencies, including the National Archives and Records Administration. The building was used to this end until the 1930s, when the government converted it into an office building, the United States Federal Building. The building served as a storehouse, in which customs agents would examine and assess imported goods to set valuations and duties. Construction was completed in 1898 by his successor, James Knox Taylor. An additional eight floors were added during the years 1896 to 1898, under the direction of William Martin Aiken, supervising architect from 1895 to 1897. Construction began under the direction of supervising architect Edbrooke in 1892, comprising the first two floors of the building. The construction of the building was authorized by Congress in 1888. He died before the completion of the building, but his influence and the influence of the Chicago School of Architecture is evident. Edbrooke, left his successful Chicago practice on being named Supervising Architect of the Treasury in 1891. ![]() It is a ten-story Romanesque style building bounded by Christopher, Greenwich, Barrow, and Washington Streets, about four blocks west of Sheridan Square. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The Federal Office Building in the West Village of Manhattan, New York City, also known as United States Appraisers' Warehouse, was built between 1892–99. ![]()
